Steyr Automotive picks up speed

Start of the training year for 44 new apprentices
75 leasing employees taken on

On September 1st, 44 girls and boys started their apprenticeship in 7 professions in the fields of metal technology, automotive technology, mechatronics, electrical engineering, logistics, process technology and mechanical engineering at the Steyr Automotive training centre – 24 of them for the Steyr Automotive plant itself as well as 14 for SKF Austria, 3 for CNH Industrial Austria and 3 for GFM Steyr, who as long-time training partners trust in the excellent training level of this training centre.

After a ceremonial kick-off event, a tour of the future workplaces in the training centre and insights into the production halls, where the young people spent their first day in the company together with their parents, the new apprentices from Steyr Automotive went to an action-packed team-building training at the adventure camp in Spital am Pyhrn. Whether during the orientation hike, the course in the forest ropes course, the construction of a “vehicle from the Stone Age” or the cosy end around the campfire – with a lot of fun, enthusiasm and commitment, they were able to gain their first experiences as a team.

On the same day, it was also an event worth remembering for a group of 10 “older” gentlemen: they visited the factory on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the beginning of their training – on 1 September 1952!

100 years of vocational training

The Steyr Automotive training centre is the largest in the region. The traditional roots of the training workshop go back to 1922, so vocational training at this location is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Today, a team of 12 people accompanies around 300 apprentices over a period of 4 years. Other well-known companies and institutions that cooperate with this established training resource at Steyr Automotive include AVL, BFI Upper Austria, BMW, Magna, Steyr Arms and ZF.

Interested young people and their parents will once again have the opportunity to obtain detailed information about the training on offer at the fit4future fair on Friday, 30.9. and Saturday, 1.10.2022 at the Steyr Stadthalle am Tabor.

1 year Steyr Automotive – 75 leasing employees taken over into the staff base

“For exactly 1 year – with the takeover of the MAN Truck & Bus plant – we as Steyr Automotive have been going through an intensive transformation process,” says Managing Director for Human Resources, Mag. Florian Mayrhofer. “We have to establish a completely new business model and operate as an independent company. Naturally, this also means strong structural changes in the personnel area, but above all new opportunities and new exciting fields of activity. There is great potential here both for our young people and for our production staff.”

On 1 September 2022, 75 former leased employees were taken over into permanent employment at Steyr Automotive.
